In this elective we will delve into the many facets of the African
American Experience and History from Ancient African Civilizations to
2017. Students will be given the resources to engage in meaningful dialogue and
facilitate activities based on texts including The Willie Lynch Letter, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, and The
Narratives of Frederick Douglass. This elective will also include
the viewing of such films including the documentaries 13th and 4 Little Girls
and movies such as "Do The Right
Thing", "School Daze" and "Birth of a Nation." This
elective will be led in the style of college level seminar class. We will
culminate the year with a History Fair in which students will lead
workshops and presentations on what they've learned throughout the
course.
